Town Plan

The BDC engaged in a planning exercise in 2006, resulting in a plan that was adopted by the City of Quinte West as the Secondary Plan for Batawa in 2007. This plan identified the following planning districts:
  • Village Centre
  • Business Park
  • Live/Work
  • Residential
  • Open Space
The planning districts and associated densities for development are now entrenched in the Official Plan for the community.

In 2008, the BDC completed a conceptual town plan based upon the 2007 Secondary Plan to solicit feedback from the community and its residents past and present. While the BDC intends to revisit this plan with its partner, the 2008 plan provides a useful look at the potential of the site- featuring residential, commercial, institutional, recreation and industrial development opportunities. The scope of development opportunities, set in a growth area with all of the advantages of its rural surroundings, is what makes this development opportunity so unique.

Included in the conceptual town plan are the following:
  • 550 additional residential units
  • 152 detached homes 60 villas (4 units per lot)
  • 145 town houses
  • 127 apartment units
  • 100 acre business park
  • Commercial development opportunities throughout
  • 50 acre Alpine Ski Area & Outdoor education Centre
  • Over 25 km of recreation trails
  • Sports Fields
  • Over 800 acres of Natural area
Based upon positive response, steps were taken to pave the way for the implementation of this plan, including significant infrastructure improvements. The BDC expects to re-engage in town planning as part of its development process to complete the detailed planning within these districts.
